It could be that the WiFi syncing method is removed in the future, but for me WiFi syncing is still working between the Spotify desktop app and the iOS app. Apparently you can fix it by rooting your phone and installing a startup manager to prevent Spotify running at startup. The downloads aren't deleted, just spotify doesn't see them when it starts so it appears they're no longer there. You can read more info about the new iOS Local Files experience here: It appears this is caused by Spotify running at startup before the storage sub-system has started. To make it easier you could have the Spotify desktop app and Apple Music / iTunes desktop app get the Local Files from the same folder location so you don't have to manage them twice. For iOS, you need to connect your device to your computer and import the Local Files into the Apple Music iOS app using the Finder / Apple Music app on Mac, or iTunes on Windows. Local Files import was added in the Android app recently, and now it has been added to the iOS app. The new way is to import the Local Files to your mobile device locally, and then Spotify can find them and import them into the app. For some users it worked just fine, but other users had trouble. If you search Reddit or the Spotify Community, one of the biggest issues is that users have trouble getting Local Files sync between the Spotify desktop and mobile app to work on their WiFi network.
